All of the Santa Fe Extension Master Gardener projects have an educational component.  Most offer workshops and clinics at various times during the season.

Each project has a specific emphasis and location. Find out more about each of our projects by selecting the project or photo.

SNaPP is a certification and public education program that promotes the use of native plants in the local landscape. The SNaPP demonstration gardens illustrate the use and importance of native and xeric plants to attract and provide food and shelter for wildlife, including birds, butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects.

Master Gardeners and Interns work together to share information about gardening and provide research-based answers to questions from the public.

The Santa Fe Master Gardener Association began assisting the Santa Fe Rose Society with maintenance of the long established Harvey H. Cornell, Sr. Rose Garden in 2010. Our members assist the City of Santa Fe with rose pruning, deadheading, mulching, and various garden tasks during the growing season.

Partners with Historic Santa Fe Foundation since 2012, Santa Fe Extension Master Gardeners work to restore, maintain, and enhance a beautiful 19th century flower garden that combines exotic, native and waterwise plants and sustainable gardening practices.

Our goal is to showcase these wonderfully drought-tolerant plants in an appealing garden that receives minimal maintenance and almost no supplemental water.

Santa Fe Extension Master Gardeners volunteer to research and answer questions, diagnose problems on plant specimens, and identify insects brought to the Santa Fe County Extension Office.  They also respond to calls received on the Master Gardener Hotline (505-471-6251) and staff the SFEMG Office several hours a week March through October.

The Santa Fe Public Spaces Tree Inventory works in liaison with the City of Santa Fe Municipal Tree Board to inventory the city trees, beginning with the parks system. By collecting species, diameter, condition, and location data, we are learning to identify trees, pests that afflict the trees and troubleshoot factors influencing tree health.

The renamed Rose Family Garden is headed up by master gardeners with advisory support from the Santa Fe Native Plant Project (SNaPP). The project brings new life to the space currently occupied by the now-dormant Earth-Kind® Rose Field Trial garden between the upper and lower parking areas.

SCAT members also maintain the Compost Demonstration Site on the SF County Extension campus on a weekly basis throughout the year and offer monthly educational composting clinics to the general public and SFEMG members there, April through October.

The Santa Fe Seed Stewards Project is a public education program of the Santa Fe Master Gardener Association. Its mission is to promote the awareness and importance of our seeds as the most elemental source of everything we depend on – food, clothing, and shelter.
