Vegetable Gardening 101

New to gardening in Santa Fe?

Want to learn how to get the most out of your home garden?

Come learn the basics about vegetable gardening in our challenging Santa Fe environment. This

introductory course was developed by Master Gardener Jannine Cabossel, the “Tomato Lady” at the

Farmers Market, and will be assisted by members of the Santa Fe Master Gardener Association.

Vegetable Gardening 101 will be taught in 2 classes on two consecutive Sundays from 12:00 pm – 2:00pm. The second class will build on what you learn in the first class. You must sign up for both classes.

Sunday Mar. 15: The first class will cover…

--how to plan a garden in our short growing season; best varieties of vegetables for Santa Fe gardens;

cool and warm season crops

--the advantages of growing in raised beds

--microclimates in your own garden

--how to create healthy and bountiful vegetable gardens

--how to stretch the growing season in your vegetable garden

--understanding compost and how to make it

Sunday Mar. 22: The second class will be hands-on and you will learn…

--how to prepare your garden beds

--which amendments to add to your soil

--easy to do drip systems

--how to plant different vegetables

--how to use compost in your garden

The class is limited to 30 people.
