The Sustainability Series highlights the relationships between healthy land and resilient communities. The 2020 Sustainability Lecture Series focuses the lens of sustainability on trees and supporting tree health from small to large scale in a changing climate.
Trees are a beloved part of our landscapes and provide a multitude of benefits to people and the environment. They are also vulnerable to changes in climate and a variety of pests and pathogens. This lecture will highlight the importance of monitoring for signs and symptoms of disease in keeping trees healthy. Learn about emerging pests and diseases that are in Santa Fe today and others that we expect to see in the future including fire blight, thousand cankers disease, emerald ash borer, oak wilt, and piñon scale.
Santa Fe Botanical Garden staff, Mollie Parsons and Scott Canning, will share training and information from the Sentinel Plant Network, a collaboration between the National Plant Diagnostic Network and the American Public Gardens Association. The Sentinel Plant Network partnership extends the scientific and training expertise of the National Plant Diagnostic Network through thousands of public garden professionals, volunteers and community members to improved the country’s ability to quickly detect and respond to serious plant pests and diseases.
