DETAILS: The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum’s Cultural Landscapes 2019 Fellow Katherine Boles gives a summary of her research into the cultural landscape of O’Keeffe’s Abiquiú property.  Archival research, on-site documentation, and information from the Museum’s staff provide new insights into the physical history of the site.  This research is the first part of a cultural landscape study of the property.  Future site analysis and treatment recommendations will build upon this site history and help guide the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum’s ongoing care of the property.

Speaker: Kate Boles is a graduate architecture student at the University of New Mexico.  She returned to school after working in Santa Fe architecture and landscape architecture firms and becoming a New Mexico licensed landscape architect.  She is particularly interested in the intersection of historic preservation, ecology, landscape architecture and architecture in the face of climate change.  Kate holds a Masters in Landscape Architecture and a Certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Virginia, and a BA in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and a BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Rice University.
